The Disappearing Middle Ground

Why is our very being and who we are judged by our opinion on the LGBT community? Christians have dug themselves a hole. Throughout the years we have continued to persecute, judge and mock those who are living an ungodly lifestyle. In recent years the sexual revolution has sprung up and become bigger than could have ever been imagined. David Gushee writes for The Religion News Service declaring "Middle ground is disappearing on the question of whether LGBT persons should be treated as full equals, without any discrimination in society and on the related question of whether religious institutions should be allowed to continue discriminating due to their doctrinal beliefs." I agree with Denny Burk in the fact that the so called "middle ground" is disappearing in one's opinion of the LGBT community. I believe the "middle ground should disappear.
I remember the day my mother first explained to me what being gay meant. My mind was set straight that homosexuality was wrong in every single way. Currently working and pursuing a career in the entertainment industry (during the sexual revolution mind you) I am surrounded by those classified as LGBT. Growing up in the church I know in my heart it is wrong, however it is painful for me to state my opinion when the history of the savage and hypocritical Christians has been displayed before my very eyes.
Why will no politician dare state their stance on LGBT. Why is it a rarity to hear a sermon on homosexuality? Yes, Christians are being persecuted for their beliefs on LGBT. Yes, you will be descrimintaed for your own so called "discrimination".  Is this a risk worth taking? Christ was persecuted and died on the cross for our sins while loving each and every LGBT human. As Christians it is our job and our duty to walk along side those members of the LGBT and help them with their sin just as we are struggling with our own.

Divorce has increased almost as rapidly as homosexuality however if you ask a newly wed couple they will tell you openly they do not believe in divorce. Just because of the popularity of the sin does not mean you should hide your beliefs. If a Christian truly cares for the people of the LGBT community, they should care about their life after death.   Of course people will not understand how as Christians we believe that the LGBT is wrong and continue to love the sinner, but it is those same people who cannot fathom how a perfect God would come and die for sinful beings such as ourselves. Yes, you will be persecuted. Yes, you can love gays as a Christian.  No, there is no middle ground. No, there should never be a middle ground on sin. To conclude I found a quote from C.S. Lewis describing this topic precisely, it states, “There are no real personalities apart from God. Until you have given up your self to Him you will not have a real self. Sameness is to be found most among the most 'natural' men, not among those who surrender to Christ. " If i stand up and reject the sin of those in the LGBT I must also be willing to be persecuted while never ceasing to reach a hand out to those in the LGBT.

Christian hypocrisy yet again........

The Atlantic's article about evangelical Christian's supporting Trump after nearly a decade of condemning the ways of Bill Clinton can be described as nothing less than compelling. Once again issues in the media arise about our faith and the hypocrisy that lies within. I believe within the article lies a load of hypocrisy smothered over by the idealism of "supporting the least corrupt candidate" .

The comparing of "sins" is found as evangelical supporters of Trump condemn the ways of one (Bill Clinton) while promoting the ways of another (Donald Trump). I believe the media has been very influential in Trump gaining the support of so many conservative homes. Trumps legacy throughout the entertainment industry and reality television has given him the connection into the homes and lives of families which is unseen in any candidate to date. Many Christian homes have embraced this bold individual as the article describes, "a good candidate with flaws".  Being self-centered, flawed people evangelical Christians have a tendency to concern themselves only with the President's effect on society; as long as the candidate/president's personal life does not demoralize our "perfect Christian society"  they could care less.

On the other hand, if evangelical Christians do not support the Clinton household the only other logical candidate to support is Mr. Donald Trump. Trump's labor union, anti-feminism and financial policies line up with a more conservative lifestyle. Maybe the desperation to shake things up has lead even the most conservative citizens in our nation to fire their shot blindfolded in hopes to lead our nation to prosperity.  As Christian's we must use this election year, a year to go down in history, as an example for our judgmental ideologies on the moral beliefs and the personal lives of our leaders and the difference they make in our nation.
