the Federation for American Immigration Reform 71.4% of illegal immigrants are in the United States work force. According to these statistics 8.5 million jobs total are encumbered by illegal immigrants. The majority of jobs taken by illegal immigrants are in the states of California (1,887,695) and Texas (1,296,670). By observing the statistics one could understand the stance and action of Trump as he cracks down on immigration especially from the country of Mexico.
After spending the last 5 weeks traveling to San Fransisco and Los Angeles for my college auditions I have observed the uproar the election has caused in every extreme first hand. While immersing myself in the pool of ugly liberal behavior I discovered a truth that I stand by in my stance on "illegal immigrants stealing our jobs". It is not illegal immigrants stealing our jobs. Yes, it is a crisis that needs to be cracked down upon but there is a crisis being given birth to in our nation that compromises our economy and the essence of humanity.
Chances are you have used self-checkout, ordered a shipment on Amazon, picked up a prescription, or deposited a check within the last 24 hours. Every single one of these processes are jobs that have been taken over by machines within the last 5-10 years. I disagree with President Trump. It is not illegal immigrants taking the jobs of American people, it is machines.
Studies have shown that 5.1% of the workforce is composed of illegal immigrants while statistics state that by 2021 6% of jobs will be taken over by machines and robots. Our economy will turn from a workforce running and producing machinery to an economy run and produced BY machines.
Taxi drivers have taken violent strikes opposing the rising success of Uber. As Tesla, Apple and Google invest in the production of driverless cars it is only a matter of time until Uber eliminates its drivers all together. Therefore destroying another career field.
(please actually watch the video)
Recently Amazon announced an addition to their company, "Amazon Go". Amazon Go allows customers to walk into a store and grab what they need without any form of human interaction. This decreases the job opportunities for cashiers and managers, however, creates job openings for those in the technical/machine operating field. Maybe we need to be more concerned of the narrowing specificity of careers than the decreasing of jobs.
Machines posses great abilities to save lives such as in the operating room of a surgeon. However, when machines are replacing teachers, drivers, cashiers, assistants, nurses and receptionists the economy will revolve around one group of specialized trade rather than an equal contribution within work forces. This will result in humanity possessing machine-like characteristics because of the decreasing value of specialized trade. If the economy is solely run by technology and technology is majorly run and monitored by the government the government is slowly gaining more and more power and control into the way we operate. Curriculums in schools will revolve around technical advancement and machine operation. The option of college majors will narrow resulting in slimming career options.
There is another consequence to the influence of machines in the career field, this aspect doesn't exactly reflect economics, however, through cause and effect and a trickle down effect could influence economics. Daily human interaction is decreasing rapidly. Machines are taking the place strangers that we are forced to expose ourselves to. This is dangerous. Not only will our society become anti-social but we will create our own bubble of a world that we live every scenario of our lives within. We will begin to fail to understand that others think differently than us resulting in a national arrogance. Agoraphobia is known as a common form of anxiety resulting in the inability for one to leave their home. The disorder used to only effect a small percentage of our society, often only those whom have battled with it the majority of their life. As I begin to look around in our modern world we are all beginning to live the life of an Agoraphobiac. When we need a pair Converse we can go on Amazon order the exact size, color and style and have them delivered to our door 2 days later. And here so the Delivery truck will be replaced with a drone.
Every night what do we come home to do? Flip on the TV for our daily dose of News, reality TV, crime investigation, romance or comedy. We sit in the dark and observe human interaction on the screen yet are too lazy to go out and create our own life of interaction. I know I talk about my career a lot but I'm extremely passionate about what I do and my calling. Acting is the last string of modern influence encouraging human interaction. Every day I am working towards preserving emotional connection. I go to work and I practice the art of mental connection. It is a dying essence to humanity. Media has taken over, this cannot be denied. I'm going to be the part of Media that people turn to to educate themselves on society. Understanding acting is understanding what it means to be human.
"Theatre reminds us that, even in this ever-changing digital age, there is a human body at the center of every digital transaction. Accounting for the body in the design of the future will help us make technology that works for us rather than us working for technology."-Dr. Kevin Brown
